There are many travertine sealing products to choose from in the market. Choosing one depends on the finished look you want to achieve. At LCS Stone Care, we offer these travertine sealing solutions:
There are many different types of sealers on the market making it confusing for many homeowners. Our preferred sealer is a Penetrating Sealer which is also referred to as an Impregnating Sealer or Impregnator. This type of sealer penetrates into the surface of the stone and forms an invisible barrier that is resistant to moisture and stains, while allowing vapor to escape. A penetrating sealer does not alter the natural look of the stone by creating a shine or enhancing the color. It is meant for stain resistance and protection while still allowing the stone to breathe.
Other sealers such as an Enhancer or Topical Coating scratch & scuff easily, creating a superficial shine and requiring greater maintenance. We prefer to use a penetrating sealer to protect the stone and a separate polishing process to create a gloss and color enhancement if that is desired.
Many installers have little or no knowledge of cleaning, sealing and polishing the floor. Common mistakes include leaving a grout residue on the surface of the tile, sealing over dirt and/or using an incorrect sealer or polish. The stone specialists at LCS Stone Care routinely work with many home builders and homeowners to properly clean, seal and polish travertine floors.
It is recommended to have travertine tiles sealed every one to two years to protect it from moisture and further damages. However, it is best to consult a professional to assess your specific needs and determine the ideal sealing schedule.
While there are DIY Sealers available in the market, hiring a professional for travertine sealing is highly recommended. At LCS Stone Care, we have the expertise, experience, and access to high-quality sealers that provide better protection and long-lasting results. We also employ proper sealing application techniques, resulting in a more effective and durable seal for travertine surfaces.
